Yoga for Depression and Anxiety (Part 1) with Liz Owen

In this workshop you will learn about yoga as an evidence-based practice that can be used on its own or alongside traditional western medical treatments to help ease depression and anxiety. You will take away an understanding of how to use yoga in your everyday life to create mental and emotional well-being. Both discussion and practice portions are based on NIH-funded research co-authored by Owen and conducted at Boston University School of Medicine, published by the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine. Our practice includes a centering meditation, pranayama, active and restorative asanas, therapeutic deep relaxation, and coherent breathing (breathing at a rate of five breaths per minute). Open to anyone, especially beginners and those living with depression or anxiety. An electronic booklet for home practice will be given to all participants. 2 Yoga Alliance CEU credits are available for RYTs.
