Registration is open for Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Club's Charity Cup Golf Scramble, taking place Saturday, Feb. 13, 2021, at 8 a.m. (check-in), with a shotgun start at 9 a.m., at The Sanibel Golf Club, 1100 Par View Drive in Sanibel. The event benefits the rotary and the organizations it supports throughout the year. The tournament is in a four-person scramble format, playing best ball.

"At a time when our local charities are in greatest need as a result of COVID-19, we are seriously challenged to raise enough funds to provide a fraction of the support we typically offer in an average year," said trust board president John Henshaw. "Last fiscal year, we raised and distributed over $160,000, supporting local charities and students. This year, without our Arts and Craft Festival, the Golf Fundraiser will be a major fundraising event for our Club. As a result of COVID-19, our local charities desperately need our support."

The registration fee is $200 per round and the event is limited to 100 golfers. Registration includes green fee, cart fee, boxed lunch, hat, swag bag, and chances to win prizes. Lunch choices include roast beef, turkey, tuna, and a vegetable option. There will also be contests on the day of the event, including a helicopter ball drop, straightest drive, longest drive, closest to the pin, and hole-in-one golf cart giveaway.

The event is being held as a replacement to the rotary's normally scheduled annual fundraiser, the Annual Art Festival. The goal is to raise $50,000 in order to fund the 2021-22 charity requirements.

Within the past fiscal year, the Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Club has supported 25 charities in addition to scholarships awarded to area students. Total funds distributed have totaled $161,998. Sponsorships for this event start at $100 per hole and go up to $5,000 for the gold level.

"This will be a fun day, a sort of community celebration, and we look forward to seeing everyone there," the rotary's November newsletter stated.
