Saturday

Surprisingly quiet this May Day on the beach. Warm waves lapping at my toes as I hunt for a few colorful coquinas to add to my growing collection.

Friday

How long has it been since we’ve been downtown? Headed that way this evening for some streetside dining and people-watching.

Tuesday

Beach party! Time to say “so long” to the Michigan-, Minnesota- and Wisconsin-bound until next fall. As we always say, we’ll miss you … but it’s so nice to have our quiet island back.

Thursday

Did you hear that flapping of wings? It could be the snowbirds heading back North. The road load does seem a lot lighter these past few days.

Sunday

There’s no better place to celebrate being a mom than on my front lanai with my boys, a veggie omelet and freshly squeezed OJ.

Wednesday

I’ve been watching my new Meyer lemon tree like a hawk. (Do hawks like lemons?) I have to baby it through its first growing season.

Monday

It’s a little noisy out on the lanai as I drink my morning chai. Our neighbors are getting their trees trimmed today. It’s worth all the racket as long as those tall Australian pines get shortened in time for storm season.

Thursday

We found the tiniest little hole in our kitchen window frame and telltale signs of termite activity. Gulp. Time to call pest control.

Tuesday

Sure enough, it’s a termite, but no further evidence of more. We’re treated and protected. It’s the price of paradise.

Friday

Who turned up the thermostat? I think maybe summer has arrived.

Sunday

Well, yes, summer has officially arrived. Let’s celebrate the longest day of the year with a sunset walk and a toast to the setting sun. Gorgeous!

Friday

Rainy season is kicking in. A soaker late this afternoon. I got drenched running to the car—where my umbrella was safely stashed. Why is it never with you when you need it?

Sunday

Some tennis with M this morning. We were as drenched in sweat as I was getting caught in the downpour. Just a wee bit humid, wouldn’t you say? Time to jump in the pool.

Tuesday

Dare I say? There are little lemons on my tree!

Wednesday

Summer seems to be flying by. Already the tents are popping up in Fort Myers—peddling their fireworks.
