If you’re new to Sanibel Island, you’re bound to quickly notice the amazing views, wonderful community, and bountiful shells along the beaches.

Shelling is something of great importance to the Sanibel and Captiva communities. For more than 82 years, people have come from all over the world to witness the marvel that is the Sanibel Shell Festival. It’s no surprise that seashells are a hot topic among community members and visitors.

Anne Joffe, the owner of She Sells Sea Shells, is known throughout the Sanibel and Captiva communities as a shell connoisseur. She’s been selling seashells on Sanibel for more than 44 years and with a degree in microbiology, it’s no wonder she is one of the top judges of shelling. Anne’s book, Shellcrafting, is a helpful step-by-step guide that teaches you how to create your own unique shell crafts.

Anne’s shop, She Sells Sea Shells, has been featured in many articles around the world. The extensive collection of handmade shell crafts, along with the beautiful inventory of jewelry, books, clothing, handbags, and more, brings the majestic sea to life. Islanders and visitors are known to plan their trip accordingly to ensure they stop at She Sells Sea Shells.

Since 2000, She Sells Sea Shells has been voted the “Best Shell Shop” in Southwest Florida, as well as the “Best Shell Shop” of Sanibel. Locals and tourists alike love to visit the shop, which is open 365 days a year, to marvel at the uniqueness that Anne dedicates her life to.
