J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge Visitor & Education Center is holding its 10th annual Go Wild Fundraiser on February 9th and the featured live auction item this year will be a “carved-wood spoonbill feather with 18-carat gold and diamond accents” sculpted by Jim Sprankle, according to Sanibel-Captiva Island Reporter.

Jim Sprankle is a world-renowned sculptor that contributes to this fundraiser each year with a signature feather pin. “The winner becomes a member of the exclusive, 60-plus-member Sprankle Feather Club, which flocks together for an annual event,” reports Sanibel-Captiva.

Although this is something that Jim does every year for this event, this year is special. What Jim is carving this year is modeled after the refuge’s signature roseate spoonbill. Rather than being presented as a pin as in other years, this year it will be presented as a necklace with an 18-carat gold base inset with a diamond. This is sure to create extra buzz at this year’s event.

The Go Wild event is set to begin at 5:30 pm at The Community House on Sanibel. Tickets are $150 and can be purchased here. Tickets include drinks, dinner, the live auction, the silent auction, entertainment, and a special program dedicated to the “Ding” Darling Wildlife Society’s signature bird, the anhinga.

If you are unable to attend the event but would like to participate in the auction, contact Miller at 239-292-0566 prior to or during the event.
