“There’s so much to do and see in our very beautiful and very charming downtown,” explains Lisa Sbuttoni, President and CEO of the Fort Myers River District Alliance.
The River District offers "something for everyone," adds Sbuttoni — from fine dining establishments and casual eateries, ice cream treats and art galleries to theaters and a stroll by the Caloosahatchee Rive.

The cobblestone streets, historic buildings, sculptures, and artwork add to the ambiance of the revitalized downtown area, where nearly everything is within easy walking distance. There are various parking lots, garages, and on-street parking options to choose from.
Those looking for a fine dining establishment can visit Firestone’s Grill, located in a historic four-story building by the river. For casual dining, Downtown House of Pizza made in the New York style, is a crowd favorite.
Looking for a cool treat? Visit Scoops on First for 52 flavors of homemade ice cream, yogurt, and dairy-free options are served.
Lovegrove Studios, featuring the colorful and expressive works of the late Leoma Lovegrove. Her gallery recently relocated from Matlacha to a new downtown space in Fort Myers. Arts for Act Gallery, with the work of over 50 artists is also located downtown and offers original art, prints, jewelry, clay, upcycled clothing, and more.

Many of the interesting shops offer unique items that can’t be found just anywhere, such as those at Crooked Halos. One can find great gifts, candles, jewelry, home décor and more. Those looking for a show can check out the Florida Rep theater where theater performances are offered nearly year-round.
At the Fort Myers Regional Library, there are plenty of books and activities for children, teens, and adults. There are also free monthly events, such as Music Walk and Art Walk, held on the third Friday and first Friday of each month from 5 to 9 pm, respectively. Strolling along the Caloosahatchee is a pleasant walk and a great way to cool off and watch the boats go by. Plus, on the west end, there’s a playground. So, head downtown before the summer ends!
