Cape Coral is known for its extensive canals, which total over 400 miles. In fact, the city offers one of the most extensive canal systems in the world. The bike routes are also impressive. There are over 90 miles of interconnected biking trails that travel by preserves, parks, canals, neighborhoods, and golf courses. All told, there are eight bike routes with signage, maps, and kiosks along the way. The City is considered a Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists.

Biking is a family-friendly sport that offers health benefits, such as weight management, muscle strengthening, and cardiovascular improvement. Plus, being outside in the great outdoors can lift one’s spirits. When using caution, following traffic laws, and wearing protective gear, such as a helmet, it’s a fantastic sport. Bike Safety Information can be found at Cape Coral Parks & Recreation. What’s also great about biking is that aside from the initial cost of a bike and gear, it’s a free sport that can be enjoyed year-round in Southwest Florida.
Bike lovers look forward to the annual Tour De Cape that takes place from Friday, January 23, through Sunday, January 25. This year is the 35th year the popular event has taken place. “The event includes a 5K, a Mini Kids Ride, and 15-30-62-100 mile bike tours in the northwest and southwest regions of Cape Coral,” says Deputy Parks & Recreation Director Michael Massoglia. The event schedule is available online, along with a registration link.
“Tour De Cape is an event that truly brings our cycling community together. It’s designed for everyone, cyclists of all ages and skill levels, whether you’re a seasoned rider or just out for a fun spin with the family. It’s a great way to experience Cape Coral’s scenic routes, enjoy the outdoors, and celebrate living an active, healthy lifestyle,” adds Massoglia.
So, get out and bike, you’ll peddle your way to greater health and happiness.
