Cape Coral Animal Shelter offers a safe place for animals to receive the care needed before they are placed in a forever home. They also offer a variety of tours for the community to learn about the shelter.

“Engaging with our community is at the very heart of the Cape Coral Animal Shelter’s mission. When people understand what happens inside our shelter, they build meaningful connections to the animals, the staff, and the lifesaving work happening every day,” explains Social Media Coordinator Amanda Sheeler.

The shelter offers a variety of tours designed to educate, inspire, and invite community involvement. “School groups receive a firsthand look at shelter operations, learning about compassion, responsibility, and the dedication required to rescue and rehome animals. Local businesses and organizations are encouraged to schedule visits to explore partnership opportunities and see how collaboration directly supports animal welfare. Members of the public can also enjoy exclusive behind-the-scenes VIP tours, held every third Thursday of the month, offering an inside look at the incredible work of our staff and volunteers,” adds Sheeler.

These experiences foster transparency, trust, and a shared sense of purpose, reminding us of all that saving lives truly takes a village. The shelter is currently expanding to a new shelter space next door! The new space is triple the size and will enable greater collaboration with the community and help save the lives of cats and dogs. Donations are welcome.

The shelter is always looking for volunteers, supplies, and foster families, and there are many other ways to help and get involved with the cause. Also on-site is a full-service, affordable veterinary clinic.

The shelter also offers regular events, including their annual pet and family-friendly Walk, Wiggle, Wag & Run, on Saturday, March 21, from 8 am to 12pm. And it’s all for a good cause. "We raise vital funds to help the homeless and neglected animals in our care and find them future loving and forever homes,” adds Sheeler. Along with a 5K timed walk/run and a 1-mile fun walk around the shelter (not timed), this fabulous community event offers awards, raffles, music, and giveaways.
